The International Monetary Fund (IMF) calculates that India will witness an unprecedented economic downturn. The organization predicts that India's economy will decline by 4.5 per cent by 2020, while the economy is likely to rebound by 2021. It is further indicated that India is likely to grow by six per cent by 2021.
Gita Gopinath, the chief economist at the International Monetary Fund, said, "We are expecting India to see a 4.5% decline in the Indian economy by 2020." And for most countries, this is the case, and this economic downturn is considered the largest ever.
It is noteworthy that after 1961 the IMF became the country with the lowest growth rate for India. There is no information on what economic growth had preceded the year before 1961.
