If Hindi or Sanskrit comes again an anti-Hindi struggle- k. Ponmudi

Should our state, which has fought Sanskrit-based injustices, be enslaved again? - K. Ponmudi

Tamil Nadu: One of the DMK's senior leaders and former higher education minister Ka Ponmudi has warned that if Hindi or Sanskrit is imposed in Tamil Nadu, a major anti-Hindi struggle will erupt again.

He also strongly condemned former Vice-Chancellor Kumaraswamy's pro-Hindi remarks.

He has issued an important statement in this regard, in which he said that the former Vice-Chancellor Mr Balakurusamy is beyond the status of an educator

Like a mature politician, he has expressed his preference for the Hindi language and has welcomed the federal government's trilingual policy.

Mr Balakurusamy

He has given the green light to welcome India in 100% of schools. And what would happen if there was no Hindi in schools as per the wishes of many?

  • Global multinational and domestic employment will never exist.
  • Patriotism, national unity and national harmony will perish
  • The knowledge and personality of the individual will decline
  • Inter-state employment and business opportunities will decline
  • There will be no goodwill among the people of the country

For Mr Balagurusamy, who has such long experience and education, the grammar of patriotism, goodwill among the people of the country, employment in multinational companies,

It is very sad and reprehensible to write without understanding the meaning or knowing how to satisfy someone who understands.

University Autonomy

A person with such an opinion and a love for the Hindi language may have told the rulers of the day when Anna was the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Otherwise, the university is an autonomous institution! Had there been courage and fortitude, India might have been introduced as an optional language as well. The position is important then, the position is important today.

Indirect Sanskrit dump

His argument is that Tamil should be made a subject for Tamil Nadu government school students. That is, at present, Tamil is taught as a language subject in Part One and English in Part Two in a government school.

He also says that part three should be made, in which four or five language subjects, such as Hindi and Sanskrit, should be chosen and the preferred language should be chosen and studied.

Such comments are made indirectly without directly advocating for Sanskrit. The implicit Sanskrit dump is to make people read Sanskrit saying that India is beneficial.

Beyond Tamil Nadu

About 15% of those who have studied in our Tamil Nadu schools and colleges and universities are employed abroad and about 80% of those who work in Tamil Nadu.

Only those who are working in other states beyond Tamil Nadu are given jobs in our state and go abroad for job change or promotion. But the number of such people is very low.

Where is it needed?

With the need to work abroad and speak and write English, I am now taking great care of places from school to college.

Each educational institution offers a series of tutorials to teach you to speak and write English. Where is the Hindi language needed here in this situation?

Tamil Nadu students are now writing in their mother tongue Tamil and succeeding heavily in the civil service exams, following the rule that they can write in English and Tamil when writing exams for central government jobs.

In this scenario, where does Hindi language help or where Hindi education is needed?

Fake reason

No language is knowledge. Even a practitioner between many states will speak many languages fluently. So the knowledge gained through mother tongue education will elevate one.

Anyone can learn any language at any time, depending on the needs of the task. The very false reason became that India as a whole could only work if it knew Hindi.

If you want to prepare to sell chaya ’(tea)

We see a large number of unemployed people migrating to different states from states where only Hindi is spoken.

It is important to know that even such people do not get jobs just because they know Hindi there. They get work only through physical labour.

If you want, if you want to prepare a young man in our Tamil Nadu to sell ‘chaya’ (tea) at railway stations in the northern Indian states, you can teach him Hindi.

Those who know only Hindi

Many of the most talked-about lawyers in the Supreme Court today, in Delhi, are from Tamil Nadu.

Many of the high-ranking officials in the Central Government in Delhi are Tamils, who have no way to speak English with them, only know Hindi, and think that we should study Hindi, without exposing their inability.

In this, some of us support it. If you do not study Hindi, nationalism will be without national unity.

At the Indian level

On August 8, 2020, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi addressed all the Vice-Chancellors across India at the New Education Policy 2020 presentation meeting organized by the University Grants Commission.

He performed the entire speech that day in Hindi. All 880 attendees who attended knew English for sure. About 65% of the spouses do not know Hindi.

If the Prime Minister delivers his speech in English among these people, will it be a spearhead for patriotism and national unity? No? Not only the Prime Minister but also the Minister of Human Resource Development addressed the gathering in Hindi.

To study medicine

Prior to 1923, Sanskrit education was required to study medicine in the province of Chennai. Although medical education was taught only in English, there was an unfair position that only those who had studied Sanskrit could study medicine.

However, in 1923, King Panangandi Ramarayaningar of Pangal, by his own initiative, issued a government decree removing the unjust rule that it was necessary to know Sanskrit to study in a medical college.

Knowing that only those who had studied Sanskrit should study medicine and others should not study, the then Chief Minister issued a historic decree that medical students should not have to know Sanskrit.

Medical education

It was only after that that in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the backward, the downtrodden, the Muslims and the Christians all got the opportunity to study medicine.

The University of Chennai, which was started in 1857, was taught various languages, including Sanskrit, until 1923, when King Pangal came to power on behalf of the Justice Party.

Students get a degree through Tamil language education

Until then, the university rule was dominated by a narrow-minded congregation.

In this way, the dominance of certain communities was curtailed at the University of Chennai. It was only after 1927-1928 that students were able to graduate through Tamil language education.

Government school students

Should our state, which has fought against such Sanskrit-based oppression and injustice, be enslaved again by allowing a trilingual policy?

Should we allow Sanskrit to come back through the backwaters, subjugating India? Due to the current workload, public school students are not able to prepare themselves for exams like NEET.

The dream of becoming a doctor

Another lesson is that the dream of becoming a doctor for such students has become a daydream as social justice opportunities are denied.

If that too comes in Hindi or Sanskrit, it is doomed that the youth will be pushed into another anti-Hindi struggle. Thus said Ponmudi...
