India: Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the GST tax has fallen sharply due to the corona.

Speaking at the GST committee meeting, Nirmala Sitharaman said that corona damage is an act of God. Thus there was a huge decline due to GST revenue, he said.
1.65 lakh crore
He added that there was a decline in revenue of Rs 2.35 lakh crore and that the GST had fallen to an unprecedented extent due to the corona and that we had faced a very bad situation this year.

He also pointed out that the central government has released Rs 1.65 lakh crore in GST compensation to the state governments. He also said that Rs 13,806 crore has been given to religion in March.
He said the state governments should give a proper explanation regarding GST. Punjab alone has lost Rs 25,000 crore in revenue. Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the state governments should immediately give a proper explanation regarding the GST tax.

This has been mainly opposed by various state parties. Various state parties have objected to the claim that it is wrong to talk of compensation only in the state of GST revenue as if the central government has no obligation.
